There's a new captain in town...well, at least for the Charlotte Checkers. The vacancy left by Bryan Rodney will be filled by Brett Sutter, 24 and in his 5th professional season. Coach Jeff Daniels said, "He earned the nod because of his experience and hard work."

Sutter is a member of hockey's most famous family. His father, 5 uncles, and 3 cousins have all been drafted by NHL teams. Brandon & Brody Sutter were selected by the Carolina Hurricanes.

Joining Sutter in his captain duties will be alternate captains, Nicolas Blanchard and Chris Durno. Blanchard was also one of the alterante captains for the 2010-11 team.

With the reassignment of Riley Nash to the Checkers, Mike McKenzie and Justin Shugg were assigned to the ECHL's Florida Everblades.
