On the campus of Appalachian State University, Duck Pond really only exists for one purpose. For plunging.  Every year, students (and others) raise money for the Special Olympics by participating in the Polar Plunge.  When the football team records a big victory, fans will celebrate with a plunge of themselves and the goal posts.  They even did it when Osama was killed.

But, a young chap decided to take that all up a notch.  Saturday night, Justin Ferrell plunged his Mustang into Duck Pond.  Apparently, no alcohol was involved.  If you're wondering about the Boone climate, I can attest that there is never ice on Stadium Drive (the road adjacent to the pond), unless there is a current snowstorm.

The real reason the driver felt the need to drop his car in the water is unknown by Boone Police.  But, I know.  He was just basking in the Appalachian experience.

Bystanders watched as the car emerged from the pond.  Appalachian students will cheer for anything.
