About a year ago, The White Stripes broke up.  Since then, Jack White has stayed busy producing the most random musicians he can find.  Now, it is his turn.  Monday, Jack released a new single, "Love Interruption" on his website.  The album is Blunderbuss and will be available on April 23.  The song features a backup singer, Ruby Amanfu.  At first, it sounds like it is a cover of "Son of a Preacherman."  Then, it morphs into a very good blues folk song.

So, Carolina Rebellion is happening again.  Perhaps we should take a peak back at the original?  There are still several videos on the website from last year's event.  There are band interviews, Woody & Wilcox's perspective and my perspective.  Go ahead and relive the fun.

Oh yeah.  The music.  There's a ton of amateur Youtube videos.  They can get kind of shaky, and didn't try to find the absolute best, but check them out.  Make sure you watch Seether's cover of "Heart Shaped Box" so you can get a good shot of Shaun Morgan's microphone.

Cover songs have been around almost as long as music.  I'm guessing when the second person learned how to make music, a cover song followed.  Cover songs generate a lot of controversy.  If you do a terrible job at a previously recorded song, expect some hate.  If a cover song becomes more popular than the original, people will begin to think that the original version is the cover.

One of the most popular cover songs in the past couple of years was Seether's version of "Careless Whisper."  It was originally a huge hit for  Wham! and George Michael.

Foo Fighters ran into a random tiff with Prince over two different songs.  The Fighters put a cover of Prince's "Darling Nikki" on the B side of an Australian single and it became a bit of a fan favorite.  Prince didn't like it.  He thought the band should record their own tunes.  Then, for some reason, Prince played "Best of You" at the Super Bowl.  The Foo Fighters had no idea why that happened.

Sometimes, you be surprised to hear that a popular song is actually a cover.  One of The Black Crowes' most well known songs is a cover.

My personal favorite cover song is a Beatles song.  "Hey Jude" was covered by Wilson Pickett (with Duane Allman on guitar).
