I am geekily excited to see this exhibit @ Discovery Place (now through April 12, 2012).
I know you're probably thinking, mummies? Really?
And no, I'm not talking about the Brendan Fraser movies either.
I'm talking about REAL LIFE.
REAL MUMMIES!
Where else am I going to get to see a real Egyptian mummy.
NO WHERE ELSE I tell you. NO WHERE ELSE.
Here is the description for Mummies of the World (taken from Discovery Place's website:)
Mummies of the World is the largest exhibition of mummies and related artifacts ever assembled, made its southern U.S. premiere at Discovery Place on 11.11.11. This compelling collection, presented with reverence and dignity, includes ancient mummies and important artifacts from Asia, Oceania, South America, Europe, as well as ancient Egypt, dating as far back as 6,500 years.
Everyone has see the Mask of Tutankhamun's mummy but have you seen this mummy?
This is "THE TATTOO WOMAN"
You can obviously see her tattoos, but what's her story? What were the meanings, if any, behind her tattoos? She was obviously buried with love and care. Did she die at an early time in her life?
There is also this Chilean Mummy:
Why was he or she placed this way to rest for the rest of the existence on earth? What did he/she die of?
It is going to be completely amazing for me to learn their stories. There is so much we don't know about out there. Through their deaths, may we learn. Through their deaths, may we see how the past was and how much we have evolved as a human race.
To learn more about Mummies of the World and to get tickets to visit on your own to go http://mummies.discoveryplace.org/
I will have a full recap on Monday of my visit this weekend. I can't wait!!!!
