After performing at Weenie Roast, Anberlin discussed their new album and life on the road with DZL. The band will release their sixth studio album, Vital, on October 26. For the album, the band returned to work with producer Aaron Sprinkle, who produced the band's first three albums.
In October, Anberlin will tour with Smashing Pumpkins. In general, the band loves hitting the road. The opportunity to travel all around the globe is particularly pleasing to the Florida band. They talked about embracing the differences in cultures, even when they affect how an audience reacts to their music. Front-man Stephen Christian says Japanese audiences are particularly unique, "they clap for one second, then they stop."
With a new album on the way, the band also talked about changes in the music industry and how people get new music. They mentioned how easy it is to download music. Christian says, "as long as people take time to enjoy the record, I don't care how they get it."
Garbage was one of the most popular alternative rock bands of the 1990s. Hailing from Madison, Wisconsin, Shirley Manson, Duke Erikson, Steve Marker, and Butch Vig became staples on alternative radio in the mid to late 1990s. The band's debut, self-titled album sold over 4 million copies and featured hits like Stupid Girl and I'm Only Happy When it Rains.
The band went on hiatus in 2005 and reunited to release Not Your Kind of People earlier this year. Coincidentally, the band's hiatus and return coincided with the years of Weenie Roast's hiatus and return.
During the band's hiatus, Manson and Vig worked on other high profile projects. Shirley Manson went into acting. She appeared in the Fox TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles as Catherine Weaver. Butch Vig produced several albums including Green Day's 21st Century Breakdown and Foo Fighters' Wasting Light. He also worked with Dave Grohl on the upcoming documentary, Sound City, based on the recording studio where several famous albums (including Nirvana's Nevermind album which Vig also produced).
The Woody and Wilcox Show talked to all of the members of Garbage about touring now that they are back together. They also discussed pediatric cancer, a cause close to both the band and the show. A friend of the band lost a child to cancer and they have worked with the Pablove Foundation. The Woody & Wilcox Show has worked closely with the Isabella Santos Foundation, inspired by a little girl who recently lost her battle with cancer.
Coheed & Cambria brought their special brand of progressive metal to Weenie Roast. Known for concepts and storylines in their albums, Coheed & Cambria can tell a story as good as they can rock an audience.
There are discussions to turn their previous albums (and comics) into a film. The band had no new news to share on that front when DZL spoke to guitarist Travis Stever and drummer Josh Eppard. They did discuss what it is like playing a festival show with so many other bands.
Since 2005, the band has released four albums. The first two albums featured Kevin Matisyn on lead vocals, but he was replaced in 2009 by Dan Chandler. Chandler is featured on the band's last two albums, including Graveyard of Empires which was released earlier this year.
